How can Nutritional therapy help you?

Nutritional therapy not only helps you to feel happy calm and relaxed but can help the healing process of most health conditions too. This is because nutrients from foods helps to build, repair and maintain our body systems. There is a saying 'you are what you eat', which is true! because vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, glucose and amino acids from quality food, all play key parts in helping your body to function well. Also, the right diet helps good brain function, concentration, memory and even creativity. if you feel well, you will feel more positive, in turn this positive state will reflect on your beliefs, relationships,  and performance, which is why I say you are what you eat and believe. So the foundation to a positive life comes from a healthy nourishing diet.

What happens when you come to see me for your initial consultation?

Case history questionnaire

My approach is naturopathic, holistic and scientific. I ask you to fill in a case history questionnaire which asks questions about your health history, your presenting symptoms, traumas and stressful situations, medication taken and your typical days diet. I then assess holistically how you have arrived at your current state of health and what needs to be done nutritionally to help you to overcome your symptoms. I also explain your food intolerances.

Dietary programme

We together discuss and plan out a simple dietary programme that you feel you can do, I make recommendations explaining how to prepare the food. The food and fluids recommended are nourishing, healing and hydrating and best of all the food is delicious. I am currently creating a healing cookbook and I email you recipes from my book.

My programme is not a diet, it is a healthy way of eating that helps to bring back your body's integrity to rebalance it's imbalances, this includes weight loss if you are overweight and weight gain if you are under weight. I do not recommend dieting because realistically longer term dieting does not work. Dieting could slow down your metabolism and you could end up with hormonal problems longer term.

With my programme you eat as much food as you want to, there will be no calorie counting. Suitable exercise may be recommended, we can explore fun, relaxing or even challenging forms of exercise, this will depend on what suits you. I am more likely to recommend fun and relaxing exercise, the more chronic your health condition is the more relaxing your exercise will be e.g. country walk or yoga!

What will the food look like and taste like?

I will encourage you to eat plenty of fresh colourful vegetables and I will supply you with very yummy, very simple, exciting recipes! I have been creating recipes for years and feel it is important that you have an interesting and tasty diet to encourage you to maintain your new way of eating for life. Recipes range from meat, fish and egg dishes to vegan dishes using pulses and tofu, the recipes will depend on what you like to eat, you can have more traditional recipes e.g. baked fish, roast rib of beef, chicken tangine, egg and mushroom omelette or spicy food (not too hot though) or vegan dishes using pulses or tofu with garlic and interesting spices e.g. curries, casseroles, bolognese, chilli or raw foods for the advanced in nutritional health. My dietary programme is very flexible and versatile to suit what you like. We do of course avoid harmful ingredients e.g. salt.

Natural food state supplementation

I am likely to recommend a natural food state supplement programme to help support your body while you cleanse and re-nourish. The supplements adjust in time according to your symptoms. They replenish your nutritional deficiencies and support your healing process.

Optional: Naturopathic techniques (for faster results)

Naturopathy is optional to your treatment, if you are presenting quite a toxic picture I am likely to recommend that you try some of them, depending on which suits you. Again, they are optional to your programme.

Hydrotherapy is a natural and powerful way to help eliminate toxins from your body e.g. hot and cold showers/tubbing water treatment, coffee and camomile enemas (not obligatory, but they are powerful at helping to rid toxins out of your body and they are more comfortable than you imagine).  Castor oil packing helps generate healing to specific areas of the body e.g. placed on your liver will create heat and movement, melting down bad fats so that toxins can move out of your liver through bile. Castor oil attracts all the colours of the spectrum so also helps to attract light & colour healing as well. (Please do not try these techniques unless on a proper programme set out by a qualified naturopathic nutritional therapist).

How does your treatment help my healing process?

The dietary programme is the most fundamental part of your healing process. The foods I recommend are moist, soothing and full of nutrients and don't worry there are lots of fantastic delicious recipes. They help to support the elimination of toxins from your body in a very gentle way. The fluids I recommend are hydrating, creating flow and movement within your body again helping the elimination of toxins and bringing nutrients to your cells so that your cells, tissues and organs can start to repair in the best way they can. The supplements help to support your dietary healing process because there are certain nutrients that are very lacking in our foods, we therefore need to supplement them e.g. fish oils, magnesium, B vitamins, zinc and others. (Please may I recommend that you try not to self prescribe I advise you see an experienced nutritional therapist for a proper supplement prescription).

In time over the course of treatment, your energy should improve, you should feel more relaxed, happier, your symptoms should improve and hopefully in time heal as much as you can. (please read true account testimonials).

Coaching/NLP techniques for a positive belief system

I may incorporate some coaching techniques to help my clients overcome their negative beliefs. Negative beliefs are I believe symptoms of your overall state of health and also aspects of your life that are not making you feel very happy. Together we find a way to motivate you to think positively about your programme and life, this is called NLP (neuro linguistic programming) which simply means changing your state of mind from a negative state to a positive state.

What if I am a business man/woman and I have a busy schedule and need a diet that will fit in with my business life?

You may be suffering with: I.B.S., diverticulitis, high blood pressure, angina, fatigue, headaches and other health conditions!

We can take a health coaching approach in which case you can choose from my 'rightdiet4u' options e.g. food combining or the GI diet (both can be managed when eating out). The benefits are still good because I will help you select foods that are healthier, avoiding salty foods which cause a lot of health problems. A natural food state supplement programme can be prescribed to help give you the extra nutrients that you will need to cope with your busy stressful life. I will recommend hydrating fluids as well.

How many follow up consultations will I need and how often?

I highly recommend follow up consultations because it is unlikely that you will recover from your symptoms from just one consultation. You are likely to experience an alleviation of symptoms from your first consultation, this will depend on your health condition.

Over the course of treatment, your dietary and supplement programme will change according to your symptoms. Each time you come back for a consultation I assess your progress, your healing process, you will have questions to ask me, I will have more to teach you and we then move you on to the next stage of treatment. In time your symptoms should lesson and your health should improve.

If you have I.B.S. you may require 3 consultations if you have Chronic fatigue, you may require 8 or more. Initially I recommend every 2 -- 3 weeks, as your symptoms improve we can extend that to 4 --6 weeks. When you are well you have the option to come back for a maintenance check every 6 months -- 1 year if you like to keep you on track and up to date with the latest nutritional supplements and foods.
